Beer Commissioner Speaks on Geography

The Beer Commissioner is not the world's most traveled man.  I have been to 9 countries, three continents, 35 states, a rodeo, a Kiss concert and Graceland.  I have never been elected to anything.  I did run for treasurer in the 7th grade, but lost.  During the course of the election though, I did make it my business to learn how many sections were in the 7th grade class (8).  I'm not sure this is really important, but I did want to campaign in every section.  Keep in mind, I lost the election.  Maybe because something like learning how many sections are in your class wasn't important.

Keeping that in mind, I do not know how in the world I missed this video?

Really?  Why is this video only on youtube?  Why hasn't this been all over the nightly news, Saturday Night Live, the Daily Show?

Am I the only person on the planet that thinks, if you are running for President of the United States, you should know how many states are in this country?  I asked the Deputy Commissioner this morning, how many states are in this country, and he said 16.  Now, he is 4 (barely), and couldn't find the United States on a map.  But, if he were in a contest with one of our Presidential candidates, playing by Price is Right Rules, the Deputy would win by virtue of his coming closest without going over.

I watched this video a couple of times.  Here is what I concluded.  The candidate believes Hawaii and Alaska are states, which is good.  He also said, he hasn't been to visit them.  He did say though, that he has been to visit 57 states.  Now, I'm not trying to put words in the candidate's mouth, but using simple deductive logic, I can only come to the conclusion the candidate believes there are at least 59 states.  He also said he had one more to visit.  He was unclear if it was one more to visit in addition to Alaska and Hawaii, or the one more included either Alaska or Hawaii.  I'm going to give the candidate the benefit of the doubt, and assume he meant he was going to visit Hawaii, because we recently saw him surfing there on vacation.

I'm certain I learned there were 50 states somewhere in the 1st or 2nd grade.  I'm also pretty certain this country hasn't added 9 states since that time.  I read the paper.  I read Pluto is no longer a planet, so I'm sure I would've caught we added 9 states to the country.  I'm not sure though. I didn't go to Columbia.

I'm also wondering why, a few years ago we had a candidate running for vice-president, and he misspelled potato.  I also heard someone make a joke about that last week.  Folks this is 20 years later, but we don't hear anything about the nine extra states?  Are you kidding me?

Can we really expect some guy who thinks there are 59 states to improve the education system in this country?

I don't know. I'm just wondering.
